[There can be no doubt that this is exactly the result Mikazuki had expected from this little exchange and yet, as he sits here with pile of fruit in his lap and a cup of tea in his hands, he has to bow his head and try to keep he shoulders from quivering from the laughter he represses. Izuminokami truly is every bit as charming as he claims, though not necessarily in the ways he intends.]
And yet, I obtained everything I was looking for in the end. Will you stay and share them with me?
[That's when Izuminokami narrows his eyes. It wasn't like the other to go this far for this and he sits down next to him, looking at him suspiciously.]
[Eventually managing to compose himself, Mikazuki seems to ponder the eggplant for a moment, before finally settling on the cherries to hold up as a sort of peace offering to Izuminokami.]
In our line of work and life, I find it is best not to plan for too much, but simply take things as they come. And here you are.
[Then that means that Mikazuki had planned on him coming here. He eyes the cherries but he's spent enough time with Mikazuki to know what he really wanted.
That's why he sighs and leans in to kiss him, moving in to wrap an arm around him. At least Izuminokami is comfortable with the other now, after all of the time they have spent together. When he pulls back, the annoyed frown is on his face still.]
What did this stuff have to do with anything? [He motions to the eggplant.]
[Oh. He wasn't expecting that. But even though the cherries remain in his hand, unclaimed, a smile also remains on his face along with the determination that this outcome was much better. It seems they really did have that kind of relationship by now.]
As I said, it turns out that pictures are an efficient method of communication. Particularly among those much younger than us. For example... [Depositing the cherries into Izuminokami's lap for the time being, he holds up the peach instead, with the indentation facing out and down.] What do you see? If it helps, you can try to imagine it wearing pants.
[His eyes squint and he looks at the peach for a little while longer than necessary as he thinks hard about what he's looking at. When he realizes what Mikazuki means, he sighs irritably.]
Ass? Geesh. [Not impressed, Mikazuki.] You know my words still stand. You could have just said something. Maybe pictures and stuff work with others but words are always going to be the best way of telling people something.
Oh I don't know. [He turns the peach over to look at it, then looks back at Izumikami, keeping his eyes fixed on him as he takes a bite. See what he makes of that.] The best way is very often not the most fun way.
[He smiles and wipes at the juice around his mouth and licks his fingers clean.]
Very good. I'll give you the cherries. [And apparently he means that literally as well, because he's plucking the freshest looking one from the bunch and pressing it to Izuminokami's mouth, not giving him much choice in the matter anymore.] In some cultures they're a symbol of virginity. Usually a woman's but... well... I still thought it clever.
